ADDITION–Sat., 10/19: walk around the North Alabama Bend property along the Missouri River, 10am-noon, sponsored by USD Department of Sustainability & Environment in collaboration with Greening Vermillion, the Living River Group of the Sierra Club, and the Missouri National Recreational River. The current forecast is for sunny skies with little wind and temperatures in the mid-60s, so it should be a beautiful day to enjoy the diversity that our landscape provides – from restored prairie to cottonwood forest to the high-flowing Missouri River.
More information about the hike, including directions to North Alabama Bend, is available on the attached flyer or on Greening Vermillion’s Facebook page.
ADDITION–Sun., 10/20: Sioux City CROP Walk, 1-2pm sign-in, Grace United Methodist Church Parking Lot, 1735 Morningside Ave.

Tues., 10/22, 6pm “4th Tuesdays” program–“Conservation Heroes”~Andrea Porter
Every Fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM, Northwest Iowa Group of Sierra Club hosts a program and discussion at 2508 Jackson St, Sioux City, IA. It is always free and all members of the community are invited! Andrea chose a comforting program for a chilly evening! Chances are really good that the recent fall harvest will also produce an excellent potluck, so please come as early as 5:15 PM to share friendly conversation and tasty food with us.
Wikipedia.org reports that “Conservation in the United States, as a movement, began with the American sportsmen who came to the realization that wanton waste of wildlife and their habitat had led to the extinction of some species, while other species were at risk. John Muir and the Sierra Club started the modern movement, history shows that the Boone and Crockett Club, formed by Theodore Roosevelt, spearheaded conservation in the United States.”
Any questions? Jeanne Bockholt, Northwest Iowa Group Sierra Club
